Beach Weekend: Savannah Adventures
Summer has officially arrived! Over the Memorial Day weekend I got together with some old friends to help celebrate the big 21 for a girlfriend while relaxing on the beach and enjoying a sunset boat ride, good food, and watching dolphins in their natural habitat.
I do not know about you guys, but last weekend was a blast! I was invited to enjoy a condo in Savannah, Hilton Heads finest beaches, all that River Street has to offer, Tybee Islands Pier and shops, and lastly some juicy crab at the Original Crab Shack. I am very glad that I chose to go on this trip because I think I would have regretted it if I hadn't. Originally I was most likely not going to attend because I thought I had to work Monday, but I was not thinking, the next day I was hearing my co-workers go back and forth about their plans for the holiday weekend and after a couple of rounds I finally realized that it was memorial day and that I am an idiot! LOL Immediately I texted Brandon and then I let my gal know that I was all in!
We made plans for her and her Guy BFF to come pick me up at 7 Friday evening and we would all head out to Savannah where we staid in a Condo. Originally there was supposed to be like 8 people, but a whole mess happened and it wound up being my long-lost-friend (BIRTHDAY GIRL), her best friend, one of her co-workers, and myself! (I ALSO HAD MET BOTH HER GUY FRIEND AND CO-WORKER AT THE HALLOWEEN PARTY THAT I HOSTED IN OCTOBER, BUT HAVE NOT SEEN THEM SINCE) I am actually pretty happy that it ended up just being the four of us because
Brandon was not too comfortable about the fact that there were supposed to be 4 other guys there! (HE TOLD ME TO BRING THE GLOCK!) I died LOL
The condo was going to be overly crowded!
I just did not know these people and even though I was down to have a good time, I did not want to be put in a weird situation. (ESPECIALLY WITH TONS OF SINGLE MEN DRINKING THINKING THEY CAN HAVE A PIECE)
We arrived at the Condo around 10:30 Friday night, we settled in, put on a movie, and tried to plan out what we were going to try and do during the weekend. S (B-DAY GIRL) made a list of activities we potentially could explore, pending the COVID-19 policies. Unfortunately we were unable to do most of the items picked out Saturday morning because we not only sucked at time management ( WHICH IS KIND OF OKAY BECAUSE I THINK I HAD MORE FUN JUST RANDOMLY DOING SOMETHING THAN TRYING TO FOLLOW A SCHEDULE) but also because a lot of the activities had either changed the available times that would interfere with our BEACH TIME or had closed do to the virus. Which sucked, but it also helped us narrow down the things to do. The rest of Friday night we spent sitting on the bed and catching up! We eventually got hungry and I ordered a $30 meal off of Dominos that NEVER SHOWED UP! They closed at 1am and I ordered it around 11:50pm. We had talked for hours, finally when we had almost run out of things to catch up on we realized that our pizza still had not arrived. This was at 1:07 am. we tried to call, but know one answered. (THEY WERE CLOSED WITH MY PIZZA INSIDE!)
We decided just to head to bed because it was getting really late and we needed to actually get up in the AM! Around 9:45am we all woke up and took turns using the one bathroom that we had and finally headed out for breakfast towards 11am. McDonald’s it is! Almost 2 hours later we are finally walking onto a Hilton Head Beach. Trying to find the beach let alone PARKING in Hilton Head was atrocious! But hey I guess that is what we get for going to the beach during Memorial Day weekend! We spent the next few hours just hanging out in the water and talking Wedding (MY WEDDING) and B’s (S’s BEST FRIEND) roller-coaster ride with his choice of profession. After a while we join D (S’s Co-worker) on the sand to tan, which I definitely should have covered my face in sunscreen because later I looked like a raccoon!
Five O'clock it’s time to head back into Savannah and get ready for a night out on the town! You would think that River Street would not be too crowded do to the worlds status at the moment… NOOOO it was packed! River Street Sweets was our first stop, it smelled like straight sugar and I loved it! They had a whole candy bar with assortments of Fudge and chocolate covered EVERYTHING! The other half of the Candy store was sectioned off into two separate areas
Is the WALL of assorted candy where you can make your own sweet treat bag where you just weigh it and pay for what you got!
Is the WALL of packaged candy! Some were large and some were small but they all looked very delectable! I even saw a whole tray of gummies that were shaped liked different kinds of SUSHI! (THAT WAS PRETTY COOL) River Street Sweets even had a section dedicated to a cluster of Salt Water Taffy!
The whole room was sectioned off by the middle section being used as like a storage area for extra candy and towards the back they kept the equipment where they prepared the taffy and you could also watch the process of it being made! All of the candy was pretty expensive, but that was expected. I left with a small piece of fudge, a tiny bag of candy that was filled with mostly sour candy, and 2 glass coke bottles.(ONE FOR ME AND THE OTHER FOR BRANDON) We hung out by the River for awhile and then we headed to dinner. We planned on eating at a place called Lizzies Bar and Grille that was on River Street, but when we got there we were told they were closed. It was 10:14 and they “CLOSED” at 11 and so did every other restaurant and Bar on the strip! So we were pretty much starving! Needless to say we wound up going through the Wendy's drive-thru!
We stayed up talking most of the night again which probably wasn't the smartest idea considering we had to be out of the condo by 10am Sunday morning. But we managed to get ready, clean up, and get out of there by 10:05! McDonald’s became our go to breakfast spot and then we headed to Tybee Island! (WE HAD A RUNNNING INSIDE JOKE ABOUT EATING FAST FOOD THE ENTIRE TRIP CAUSE THAT IS THE ONLY PLACES THAT WE HAD EATEN SO FAR) The drive to Tybee was not bad at all, but again. with the parking situation! Our first stop, The PIER! Here is where I got myself a delicuous Strawberry Daquiri from the bar and had a nice bar tender lady inform me that the slush is already mixed with alcohol which is where I informed her that I know I look like a 13 year old, but I am actually 21! I love having to do this…
It was definitely a struggle trying to find a spot on the beach do to the very high capacity of people here for the holiday weekend! We did not spend as much time on the Beach at Tybee this day because we had a ton of things planned. One of which was SHOPPING! Ever since Brandon and I got together every trip that either I or we would go on, I would always get him a souvenir shot glass from each place that we would visit. I have not been able to get him one lately because neither of us have been anywhere in a while. So for the first time in forever I was able to get him one! After our Beach shopping experience we headed to dinner at the Original Crab!
It took a while to get seated because this place was packed! And I could definitely see why! They had an Alligator pond where you could check them out or you could feed them! They also had a small gift shop and a room dedicated to all of the rescue Birds that this amazing facility are taking care of. We were seated around 4:15 and decided to take our food to go because we had a 5 o’clock appointment for a sunset Dolphin Tour. Unfortunately we had to leave before ordering our meals because we were not going to have anytime to get to the location of the tour, but that did not stop me from ordering my second Strawberry Daquiri! We were all nervous that we were going to have to eat at McDonalds for dinner again because it was a Sunday and everything closed at 8pm. Thankfully the tour ended at 7 and we were able to make a reservation at the Original Crab before they closed. Now we were not able to get a table until nine, but at least we were actually able to eat real food once on this trip!
The Sunset Dolphin Tour was amazing! And the sunset part was actually a complete accident! We wanted a later excursion because we knew we were going to be at the beach all day and it just all worked out! The four of us got on a boat and took a trip all around the river in search for beautiful Dolphins in their natural habitat. we were able to see a lot of baby dolphins, they were sooooo cute! As well as full grown dolphins. All in all it was an amazing experience. We had tons of fun and laughed until we cried. One particular laughing session was when I asked B to take a sunset photo of us girls on the boat. WE were just cruising along when B leans back a little to far, taps my phone on his hat, and his sunglasses just splash! At first I had know idea what had happened I was smiling and waiting for the picture, but he FROZE! Two seconds later all of the gals started busting out laughing while B sat their looking disappointed! I had tears in my eyes by the time we actually got the picture taken!
After the tours and after dinner we stopped to feed the Alligators at the restaurant and then headed home. I can not tell you enough how much fun we had on this trip! Being stuck at home, only being able to go to work and the grocery store for the past 3 months, at times, was boring, stressful, and actually could become exhausting. Thank you S for inviting me on this amazing and fun trip! I cannot wait to do it again. Life is just now starting to semi get back to normal and “what a relief it is!”
