Story Time: Sophomore Year
(DISCLAIMER: THIS POST IS ENTIRELY IN MY PERSPECTIVE, I AM THE ONE TELLING THE STORY. I WILL NOT BE REVEALING ANYONES NAME FOR THEIR PRIVACY. IF YOU WERE APART OF MY LIFE BACK THEN AND YOU READ THIS, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GUESS WHO YOU ARE LOL, ENJOY!)
Today marks 3 years of being a High School graduate! In honor of this I have decided to post another Story Time on the blog! This one is dedicated to my Sophomore year of High School. This, my second year of the last part of childhood school, was my favorite! I joined so many clubs, I made more friends and became closer to a few from the year before, and I was just living my best life! (IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ABOUT MY FRESHMAN YEAR, CLICK HERE) https://bit.ly/2zU7MY0
This year I joined Chorus, Home Economics, Spanish (and Spanish Club), I was asked to be apart of National Honor Society, (this would become a huge part of my High School Career), and History Club. I got to attend the Military Ball and I was on AB Honoral for the year! I believe that covers it… This year quickly shaped into a whirlwind of after school activities and stronger friendships. I remember going to open house feeling extremely excited and ready to see the friends I had made the year prior. I was even more ecstatic when I found out that the friendships I had established my freshman year still wanted to be friends back!
The first day of school started with a bang, I settled into my classes and found or made at least one friend in each class period. Of course my favorite period was fourth because that was Literature! This class had one of my closest friends (the off and on one) and I absolutely loved the teacher! Most of the students that had taken her class did not appreciate the class or the way she taught, but I have to disagree. I do not mean to be a teachers pet or be the “goody-two-shoes” but I was taught to show respect to your teachers and always do your best In the subject being taught. Fortunately for me this subject is my favorite and I just happened to be really good at it! Sophomore Lit was surrounded by Mythological stories about Eurydice and the Odyssey! This is how I found my fascination and love for these interesting mythical stories.
I believe my second favorite class was Chorus! I decided to take this fifth period subject because I wanted to improve my voice. I know I am not and will never have a great singing voice, but I knew this subject was going to be very new, fun, and exciting. One of the highlights of choosing this class is that I found a new friend group! (Now I was in the beginners Chorus class that mainly had Freshman, so I was one of the if not the only Sophomore in this class.) We became the THREE S’s (because the 3 of our names all started with an S) One of these beautiful gals happened to be my cousin by marriage and the other one I still keep in touch with to this day! (She is coming to my wedding!) The both of them had beautiful vocals and helped me keep up with the others! Forever grateful!
The other elective that I chose to take that year was Home Economics. In this class we were separated into Kitchen teams where each team would have to make a recipe. I had some fun playing house! I did not really have any close friends in this class, but I always relied on my team when I needed help. My favorite thing I got to do in this class was make my specialty, Chicken Alfredo!
As you all would guess my least favorite subject was MATH! At least I had a best friend to get me through. This girly I had met the year before, but we had not really talked much because we were never in the same class, although we did share the gym with the class she was in. Do to the fact we had become acquaintances the year before we naturally flocked to each other. Let’s just say we were each others rock in this class! (SHE IS NOW IN MY WEDDING) Her best friend at the time was also in this class as well as another buddy that we be-friended, he shared a birthday with my dad and had an obsession with Hawaiian rolls, if I remember correctly! Geometry was not all that bad because I remember getting to be in the middle of a large tractor wheel and we got to go outside and measure and roll them around. ( OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT) It is always a good class whenever you get to leave the classroom!
In High School you also had to take one Foreign Language for at least two years to graduate. I really wanted to take French (because of Phantom) but I chickened out and decided to take Spanish because it was more common and everyone I knew was taking it! Looking back at it, I am kind of glad that I chose to take Spanish do to unforeseen issues with the French teachers, PLURAL TEACHERS! I had tons of fun in this class because the teacher was chill and introduced a lot of fun activities. I also had an old friend from Private school in this period!
Soon, after school clubs began to have sign up sheets all around the halls, let the signage begin! I clung to Spanish club and my favorite, NHS! Spanish club was so much fun! We had tons of food and cultural days and I also got to be in the Hephzibah Homecoming parade that I had always dreamed of being in! In all honesty I actually had to choose which float I wanted to be on because both Chorus and Spanish Club had one! Moving on, you can only be asked to join National Honor Society and I was one of the lucky ones! This academic club became a huge part of High School for me! (You will see more of that Junior and Senior year) I was so excited and proud to be able to join this club because I was never really good at school, at least not in Private School. At Hephzibah I began to get A’s and B’s and all of my teachers loved me in the since that I was one of their brightest students. I was able to add this credential to College applications and was exposed to more community service like I would do with my youth group at church. Being added to this club also allowed me to go to Washington D.C. my Junior year and I found my School Mom and Dad! The two people I would go to if I ever needed anything! I loved having this because in private school I always had my mother (she was a teacher) or had an elder that I was close to. (the schools were so small everyone felt like family) Lastly, I became closer to 3 of my best girlfriends, (well for High School, I hardly talk to 2 of them any more) we became JASS! (The first initial of our names) These girls helped me get through Sophomore year with hardly any bumps and became one of the reasons Sophomore year will go down in the books as my favorite!
This year was also the year I began to notice boys more! I had tons of crushes Sophomore year, but only one always had my eye! (I HAD NOT MET BRANDON YET) I am not going to disclose his name, but he was Puerto Rican and in my eyes, SMOKIN! He did have some acne and wore braces, but man when he came back during Junior year the braces were off and the acne was gone and it looked like he sprouted 2 inches! That is besides the point! This guy was in ROTC and played baseball we started talking and we added each other on social media and the most distinct memory I have about this crush is when my sister and one of the S’s from Chorus had taken my Kindle, locked themselves in my parents room, and sent him a message telling him that I liked him! So embarrassing, but it worked out because it turned out that he too had feelings for me. I remember having butterfly’s and being stoked that maybe when I turned 16 (per my parents) I would finally have a boyfriend! EHHHHH… WRONG…. that was most definitely not the case! Apparently all this boy wanted from me was sex and at the time I was not even remotely close to giving him that. I remember him asking me for a picture and I sent him a picture of my bra sitting on my bed! I was so nervous and really did not know how to handle the situation. If he had still been in my life at the end of my Senior year he just might have gotten his wish though. To sum that up I wanted to get the “V” card thing over with and he probably would have been a better choice than the person I actually chose of course I wish that person was Brandon, but sadly I was immature, idiotic, and well just stupid lol (I was being a teenager). You can read more about this on my Bad relationships Story time. HERE https://bit.ly/2TmQeuc You know what everything happens for a reason and the choices made back then shaped who I am today, so that is that! A small little scandal I guess you could say with this crush is that one of my BFF’s also had a pretty big crush on him. She did not tell me at first because she knew I liked him and apparently he had chosen me, but to be honest neither one of us needed him because he was just a typical horny teenage boy! This individual is still on my social media and we are past the petty crush stage and are acquaintances, I guess you could say. The last thing I did about him was write him a letter about how I felt and hoped we could stay friends, I know that sounds cheesy and maybe even awful, but that is how I get closure and finalize my feelings, by writing them down. (Hence the wanting a writing career)
You can also say that a lot of people had a crush on me! One was the same as the other, just wanted my body! Which is flattering, but can definitely degrade the female population! We are not just SEX toys! Another one was completely unexpected! It was one of the last days of Sophomore year and a friend that I had went to Private school with ( a different one than the friend I had in Spanish class) asked me out in the hallway by getting down on one knee and presenting me with my favorite soda at the time, Pepsi. I was shocked and really scared because I did not have feelings for him. (I wish I still had the video) Needless to say it all worked out because he started dating another girl at our high school (that I was really close to my Freshman year) and they are now married!
Trust me there are plenty more little stories that I could tell you, but this post is already long enough! Sophomore year was easy, simple, and so much fun! I had the time of my life getting to know so many more people, diving into all the things that Public school had to offer, and mostly this year built my confidence up so much! I had been struggling all through middle school and Freshman year was a learning experience, which made Sophomore year the unforced amazing year! I made tons of friends had some amazing experiences and learned how to deter horny boys! I guess that concludes this Story Time post! I hope you stuck through and read the entire thing, thanks for joining in!
