Home Update: Laundry Room Reveal
It’s another weekend everyone and I am so relieved to finally have one room in my new house completely done, excluding the floors. This weeks Blog is dedicated to the Laundry/Mud Room. I chose this room to finish first because it has the most traffic going in and out of it, as well as the Cat storage and bathroom box. This room is not very big, so I knew that I wanted to be smart with the furniture and accents that I housed in this space.
When we first purchased the house, there was absolutely no storage to speak of in the Laundry room. The washer, dryer, and water heater sat on one wall and a loley coat Hanger hung unevenly on the other. We knew from the get go, something had to be done.
A few weeks after we moved in my Grandfather had finished a couple white shelves and I helped him install them into our Laundry/Mud Room for the storage that we so desperately needed! I am still so impressed with the work that he did and so grateful to have him! These new shelves have a few different purposes. The top tier holds 4 storage cubes. The first stores a few random items such as extra Vacuum parts and Brandon’s car buffer. The second holds extra runners and place mats that I change out every season and most Holidays. The third houses extra toilet paper for when we need to restock any of the three bathrooms. Finally, the fourth stores extra dry cat food, the cat litter, and their medications. I like to keep the cat storage on the top shelf, even though it is a struggle to get to, because the felines like to get into their stuff and tear it up! Same with the toilet paper!
Moving on to the bottom tier I wanted to not only use it practically, but also decoratively. In the middle I angled two penny jars that I purchased form Target, one facing the left the other facing the right. The left penny jar is angled toward the washing machine and it’s contents are detergents, the left penny jar is angled toward the dryer and it’s contents are dryer balls. I loved this idea because penny jars are shaped to where the opening is at the bottom. Myself being short and having this specific jar definitely makes doing laundry easier. On the far right of the bottom shelf I added a small wooden box that holds Laundry items that are less appealing to the eye, such as tide pens and a sample of in wash sent boosters. I purchased the cute wooden box from the Christmas Tree store last Fall and have now converted it into a décor/storage piece for this space. Next to this box I have a small greenery piece from Target to bring some color to the white and wood colors. Between the green plant and the detergent penny jar I placed a wax warmer that came as a Christmas Gift this past Holiday. I thought this would be a great space to have the ceramic warmer for two reasons. One being a form of light to contrast with the dark space because there isn’t any window or natural light coming into the room except for the small window on the top of the side door. The second reason is to give this space a form of fragrance to not just mask the cat smell (if one had just gone to the bathroom and the smell is more prevalent) but to have a burst of freshness as you walk in the door. On the far left side of the bottom shelf a coin shadow box is angled in the corner next to another greenery piece from Bed Bath and Beyond and a wooden plaque that I purchased a few years ago, I do not remember where. This little corner has a lot to say with such small pieces. Last but certainly not least, I added the last decorative item to the shelves, this being a dirty/clean flip sign. I loved the colors and liked that it added an interactive depth to this side of the room. Target came in handy with this Hearth and Hand piece that I actually believe was created for Kitchen décor.
Brandon and I definitely wanted to hide the cat box as much as possible and being that this room is so small we had very limited options. Thankfully it all worked out because we faced the box long ways with the door facing the water heater that is attached to the back wall. How we have managed to hide it so well is thanks to Burlingtons Laundry section! I purchased a stylish rolling black metal hamper with cutouts (do not have link). I saw this hamper and had to have it! It rolled directly infront of the litter box and fits perfectly into the creves on the side of the dryer. In the open space on the wall we added a three unit metal clasp wall mount to store our mop and broom which is perfect for keeping this section of Household items organized!. I love this Amazon find because it not only keeps the larger cleaning supplies off of the floor, but it includes extra storage with the hooks attached to the metal bar. I highly recommend this item! An added bonus with this specific clasp mount is that you have the option to glue it to your wall if you want to opt out off putting screws in your wall and I just think that is kind of cool!
On the opposite wall I wanted to be more simple with the decor and storage. Along side the doormat a three cube storage bench from Bed Bath and Beyond lines the wall. I love this idea because it is the perfect size for this small space. It adds a nice bit of storage for shoes or extra items that need to be dropped as you come in the door. Above this bench decorative wall hooks hang. This Hobby Lobby find is a perfect fit for the room. The light colors help brighten the room and adds a contrast to the grey bench below it. Lastly, the stunning neutral Runner adds a homey feel to the cold tile and plain colored walls. This Oregon Runner belongs to a matching set in my living room and also the Rug in my Dinining room. All three were purchased from ESale Rugs for amazing quality and a perfect price!
I believe that concludes the Laundry/Mud Room Reveal and organizing tips! I hope you guys enjoyed this little slice of our home and cannot wait to share even more with you all! We are in the process of having our floors in the Living room and Dining room replaced so stay tuned for another Home Blog! Have a great WEEKEND!
