A Carowinds Weekend: Harbor + Theme Park
It’s that time of year again! This 2 day trip to an amazing Theme Park has been a long time coming. Carolina Harbor Waterpark combined with the invigorating Roller Coasters make for an amazing weekend trip. My Husband and I have fallen in love with this short trip where we can feel like teenagers again link below for a video of our time there. August 2021
Before I get started on the details of this year Carowinds adventure I must warn you that the prices are not as cheap as they once were. Due to the Pandemic the 2 day passes that Brandon and I have purchased for the past couple of years have been delayed and discontinued for the 2021 year. For the purpose of reaclimating the opening of the park after an entire year. So definitely be prepared for that if you plan on going for more than one day, which is a very good idea if you plan on doing both the regular park and the Waterpark.
A two an half hour drive from Augusta to Charlotte and we made it into the the park early Monday afternoon. It was definitely hot so be prepared for that. The lines were a little long in the late afternoon, but other than that we had an amazing first day. I don’t know how or why it is but the second day is always better! The last 3 trips that we have taken for both parks, day #2 turns out to be perfect. It was overcast all morning and for most of the afternoon. The lines were non existent and the sun didn’t kill us. It was definitely muggy for the first hour or so, but then we jumped the Waterpark where like 0nly 100 people happened to be. Absolutely no lines. We went down every waterslide. Enjoyed the lazy river and Wave Pool where I almost drowned. And we all froze just a little. The water wasn’t too cold, but the wind coupled with the hidden sun definitely gave us a few shivers. After a few hours we got dressed and ate a late lunch and headed back into the Theme Park and finished off the 3 Coasters we had yet to ride. One of which the boys like to call the crotch killer, actual name is the vortex. It is a stand up roller coaster. Look it up! We went on my least favorite twice. The Cyclone. It is so not smooth and it kills your head, it gave me a migrane the first year I road on it. Definitely clench your neck and arms so you don’t move around too much! Master tip for those newbies. My Hudband’s favorite is probably the Hurler which is the wooden roller coaster that looks like the one in Roaller Coaster Tycoon. We went on this one 4 times within the 2 day span. My absolute favorite is the Nighthawk! You lay down and it is like you are a flying super man! Best feeling ever. That line is always atrociously long, so make sure you hit it right before the park closes or right when it opens. A close second would have to be Afterburn. This one your feet dangle and it is supposed to be a flight. Definitely a great ride. A new favorite to add to my must ride list would definitely have to be the Copperhead Strike. It is the newest Coaster at the Park and is super smooth. Same as the Nighthawk go ASAP or right before closing. You can’t tell how far the line goes from the outside, but it is insanly long. Worth the wait 100% I think is has to be the fastest Roller Coaster I have ever been on.
Hope you enjoyed my Roller Coaster over view. There are tons more, trust me! Definitely check it out for yourself. WARNING the food is Hella expensive so make sure you are prepared for that. The best dinner spot ever is Bucca di Beppo! I cannot rave about this place enough. We go every time we come to Charlotte. There used to be one in the Augusta Mall, but it closed back in 2016. The Charlotte location is the last one on the east coast! Show them some love! BTW it is an Italian restaurant. Definitely pricey but one small plate will feed 3 to 4 people. Worth it for sure! Also this trip they were sold out of sports bands for glasses. Pro trip make sure you have one. I have like 5 at home and forgot it, EVERY TIME. It is definitely a hassle taking them off on every ride, especially if your blind as a bat like myself. Other than that you will have a great time at Carowinds where the Carolinas come together!
P.S. also a great place to be in to places at once. You know if that was on your bucket list. Enjoy my picture slide show below!
