October is here...

October Activities…

Happy first day of spooky season! I do not know about all of you, but Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Getting to dress up however you would like with no judgment is a blessing in disguise. Not to mention getting to trick-or-treat (you are never too old) and of course scaring the kiddos (this is my Fiances’ favorite part about the holiday).

October 31st. Halloween or All Hallows Eve, the evening prior to All Hallows Day, is a celebration of the dead who were faithful to religion. The holiday has changed and adapted throughout the centuries. What is an interesting fact about the “haunted” holiday is that it actually derives from Christianity. Weird right? A lot of Christ followers do not celebrate Halloween because it is believed to be the devils holiday, when in actuality the day is used to ward off evil spirits. The Jack-O-Lanterns are used to scare away the ghosts, goblins, and monsters that walk the earth. Actually an Irish Christian Folktale tells of a man named Jack who was encountered by the devil and trapped him in a tree with a cross carved into its bark. He made a deal with the King of hell stating that he could live a life of drunkenness, fun, and sin, but he could not claim his soul when his time came. Jack did not realize that he would also be denied access to eternal life in heaven and therefore travels the world with his carved pumpkin lighted with coal from hell looking for a place to rest forever and ever.

I remember going trunk-or-treating in my church parking lot because we did not live in a neighborhood. The church would provide jump castles and face painting. Definitely a great way for a child to spend the spooky holiday. Now that I am considered an adult my Halloween traditions have changed slightly. Last year during the month of October I did plenty of Halloween activities some I hadn’t tried before. My boyfriend (now Fiance’) and I decorated a haunted gingerbread mansion and carved our initials into a pumpkin. One thing that I had been wanting to try was to experience Scarowinds. Guess what… That is where me and Brandon spent our one year anniversary. I would recommend it, but if you are not a people person and do not like crowds (like BRANDON) than it may not be for you. The attractions and decor were amazing and it wasn’t bad for the first hour after the gates opened, but then it became a hassle to get anywhere. It was worth it, but this will not become an every year tradition. Something I am looking forward to doing again and again are pumpkin patches! There is just something about getting to pick your own pumpkin that is so satisfying to me (NOT FROM A GROCERY STORE). Ask anyone who knows me I HAVE A SERIOUS PUMPKIN OBSESSION! They are so freaking cute (you should see my house… COVERED). Not only is the inside of my house Halloween and Fall dect… the outside is too. Have you ever heard of the Christmas Light Fight show? Weeelll… Brandon does that every year (not the show, the decorating). Him and his grandfather have a competition every year to see whose house is the most extravagant. Since meeting me, Brandon now has to decorate, like he does Christmas, for Halloween each year. You are so very welcome my love. Our house will by far be the lit littiest litty house in the neighborhood.
